Catch the 10k race bug!!!

The Colemanstown 10k race day is only 6 weeks away so you all need to be getting your practice sessions in! The deadline for those wishing to avail of the early bird fee of €15 is looming. You have until Friday March 6th to avail of this special discount. All participants can register for the run on line at www.runireland.com . This year’s event, AAI permit yet again sponsored by Athenry AC, takes place on Holy Saturday April 4th at 12noon and is the exact route as that run for the past 4 years. The route in fact is recognised as one of the fastest 10k road races in the county and is ideal for runners of all abilities. It begins at Pat Loftus house, down by the soccer club, taking a left before Cloonkeenkerrill cemetery taking in some lovely wooded areas and some stunning locations including the bog road with it’s natural flora & fauna! In the past the run has attracted competitors from around the county with even some runners from outside the county. There is a mix of serious athletes looking to improve their personal bests and ordinary citizens looking for fun and the chance to say they actually accomplished a 10k. There is range of category prizes for the winners as well as 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female and of course an additional financial incentive for the winner to set a new course record.

Our optimistic plans for a 5k on the same day were hampered somewhat and the 5k will not proceed due to other circumstances. For anyone who has commenced ‘Fit for Life’ training in a bid to run the 5k, have the option of Loughrea 5k scheduled for the same weekend, Easter Monday, April 6th.

The club together with the huge goodwill of many locals puts on its now infamous post-race spread including teas, coffee, sandwiches, brown bread and salmon, meringues, queen cakes and lots of cake and every sort, shape and colour of low calorie laden confectionery!

Supporting events in our community is very important to so many in our area and the opportunity to be involved in such a significant event is very gratifying for all involved. To date this run has raised considerable funds which goes towards the further development of our existing facilities at the clubhouse in the grounds of the soccer club. Your continued support, as ever, is greatly appreciated.
