Kieran Dowd equals Drogba’s 29 goals

Our u-11’s provided a highly entertaining game in front of a packed stadium at home on Wednesday evening to earn a play-off with Corrib Celtic for the 1st division title. It was an enthralling, gripping & passionate encounter from start to finish so much so that the manager was even unsure of the result after the game! Kieran Dowd opened the scoring on 20 mins when he held his nerve to slot the ball neatly to the net following on from an inch-perfect pass from Lorcan Molloy at midfield. He may not be from the Ivory Coast or weigh 91kg but our star striker Kieran Dowd has now equalled Chelsea’s millionaire striker Didier Drogba’s 29 goals this season and has 2 games yet to play. He has to be the most feared striker in ‘town’. His goal was greeted with great excitement around the grounds especially given the missed opportunities beforehand.  Corrib Celtic deserved to level matters after the resumption which they duly did but Colemanstown remained calm & composed & with Lorcan Molloy taking a stranglehold in midfield and causing huge problems for Corrib Celtic, he was fouled and the hugely confident Daniel Masterson took the free kick & his powerful drive hit the roof of the net for a trademark shot even Wayne Rooney would have been proud of. Our 3rd goal came when Ronan O’Neill thread a neat pass to Kieran Dowd & the diminutive striker was fouled; the resultant penalty was duly converted by Daniel Masterson ; an exceptionally well taken penalty & an equally fine after-goal celebration. Masterson’s pace, strength & aerial power in defense makes him the type of defender every team requires & certainly his celebratory style gave the crowd plenty to enjoy. Sean Murray made some top class saves to keep us in the game while the midfield quartet of Conor & Ronan O’Neill, Stephen Kelly, & Lorcan Molloy worked hard all through. Many thanks to the huge numbers who came out to support these lads.
