Under 14’s Colemanstown 5; Kinvara Utd 0
In this game Kinvara ran out of energy & ideas before half time when they were well beaten by a rampant Colemanstown outfit who were well up for this battle. Colemanstown dominated from the outset but with the hard ground it took a little time to get themselves established but when they did, they showed great passion and their reward came with goals from Andrea O Farrell, Paddy Mullins, Darragh Kelly, Jason Gannon & Mark Costello. Johnny Lally was at his brilliant best at centre forward while Liam Carty had some fine emphatic crosses on the left wing. Conor Haverty & Chris Sheridan were in top flight in defense and showed extreme concentration all through. Evan Costello & Kieran Lawless also played a positive role when introduced.
Colemanstown ‘A’ 2; Westport 3
Colemanstown’s Connaught Cup dream bit the dust at the weekend when Westport, just a slightly better side than Colemanstown, despite their long roll of honours, travelled in large numbers to finish this game, which ended prematurely 2 weeks earlier. Colemanstown were slow out of the blocks & were 2-0 down at half time through a well taken header and a penalty following a defensive foul. Colemanstown’s only first half chances came from Colin O Grady when the keeper saved well with his feet & Jason Finn & Shane Clancy came closest with free kicks from good positions. In the 2nd half Colemanstown stepped up their attacking intentions and were rewarded after 20 mins when Tomas Flannery’s penalty stop was well followed up by the same player to slam home from close range. This put a bit of fight into Colemanstown but it was Westport who turned the screw when defender Kieran Cannon committed the cardinal sin and Wesport were awarded another penalty which they duly converted. Colemanstown got 1 back on the 90th minute when a Damian Wynne cross was met by the powerful athleticism of a Kieran Scanlon header. Colemanstown pushed on in the 3 mins of injury time but sloppy goalmouth scrambling was the closest they came. Colemanstown did reasonably well but yet again they failed to make any significant headway up front.
Our ‘B’ team lost their league encounter 3-1 to table toppers Ramblers on Saturday, the Colemanstown goal coming from veteran Andy Concannon who showed that he is not willing to lie down just yet!!
Under 12’s Colemanstown 2; Lakeside Celtic 2
Our under 12’s travelled to Loughrea & went 1-0 up on 15 mins when Ronan O Neill threaded a great ball through to Keith Murphy who nicely slotted the ball to the left of the keeper. Colemanstown had some excellent opportunities to widen the margin through Ronan Carr, Lee Murphy, Daniel Masterson & Keith Murphy but all squandered their chances. With Lakside’s only attack of the half, they caught our defense napping and slotted the ball under the legs of Keith Connell to make it 1-1 at the break. Kieran Dowd & Ronan O Neill missed early 2nd half chances before star striker Keith Murphy had to retire early following a bad wrist injury. With 10 mins to go, a Lee Murphy corner was met nicely on the half volley by Lorcan Molloy who sent a superb rifle into the back of the net. Colemanstown were giving a great account of themselves and then right at the death the defense were caught off guard once again when Lakside crossed to the far post and it was anybody’s guess what might happen as Lakeside bundled the ball over the line to ensure a share of the spoils.
