Bobby sees ‘red’

Under 12’s.  Colemanstown 4;  Killala 1

Our young guns advanced in this Connaught shield tie when they comprehensively beat Killala of Mayo in a gripping encounter. Colemanstown started brightly and had the Mayo side under pressure from the outset. Keith Murphy who has just been restored to the panel following serious illness, was on the scoresheet in his first game back, when he slot the ball under the keeper’s legs following a defense splitting pass from Daniel Masterson. Colemanstown were now turning up the heat but the Killala keeper was equal to the test with a string of super saves. Our defense were caught napping however in the last few minutes of the first half when a free kick directly found the net. Colemanstown responded immediately from the kick off when Keith Murphy combined well with Daniel Masterson and the astute player, made no mistake when he tucked the ball neatly under the legs of the advancing keeper. 2-1 Half time. Killala restarted the game in a more positive mood and put Colemastown under pressure. Keith Connell made a wonderful fingertip save to push the ball onto the crossbar from a free kick and the rearguard of Dylan Kelly, Alan Cannon, Ronan Carr & Brian Connolly stood firm. Colemanstown were awarded a penalty for a handball, while Killala’s keeper duly saved but Kieran Dowd was on hand to crash home the rebounded attempt. Daniel Masterson who took centre stage in this game made it 4-1 late in the game with a shot just outside the box. Well done to all the team on an entertaining game and like every good manager before him, eg, Sir Alex, Arsene Wenger, our Sir Bobby was banished to the stand on a day he ‘saw red’
