History Makers

Summer 2025 marked the launch of the Galway FA’s inaugural Over-35 Women’s competition– the first of its kind in the country. And what joy this competition brought to our club, both on & off the pitch. We can honestly say it revitalised the entire place.

The crowds that gathered for every game, the excitement of the children, the craic & banter, the flags & bunting – it all built to a brilliant crescendo in Eamonn Deacy Park, where our ladies entered national history books by defeating near neighbours Kiltullagh 2–0 in a superb final showdown in front of a crowd that surpassed all finals ever before it! The final itself was a special occasion for many reasons, not least because both teams came together after the game to pay a beautiful & heartfelt tribute to Niamh Kennedy who was a fantastic player taken from this world far too soon & a pivotal figure to both clubs. It was a moment of unity, respect & shared remembrance that added deep meaning to an already unforgettable day.

The bonfires lined the road to welcome the ladies and the cup home that night & there was no shortage of evenings spent celebrating. It was a victory marked not in days but in weeks …. because …..why not? That final whistle moment is one that will live long in the memory, destined to stand proudly as one of the defining chapters in our club’s story. We also wish to acknowledge Sandra King, whose drive & determination were the spark that brought this team into existence in the first place.
