Women’s Championship Kilshanvey 8 – 5 Colemanstown. Our ladies team were away to Kilshanvey on Sunday. With keeper Ruth Dempsey still out injured, Sina Schwitilla dusted off the gloves to dig the team out of a hole. Preparations were further hampered with a number of players falling ill in the lead up to the game. Despite the missing personel, Colemanstown fielded a strong team with Shauna Ward making her season debut for the girls in green. Kilshanvey made the better start of the sides with clinical finishing in their first three attacks of the game. However this didn’t deter Colemanstown, who started to get into the game, dominating the midfield battles with Lucy Roberts and Emer O’Brien (many thanks to husband Keith for his last minute delivery of Emer’s boots) imposing themselves on the game. Shauna Ward struck twice to bring the game back to a one goal game, but an unfortunate penalty gave Kilshanvey a two goal lead again. Grace Mitchell was next to add to the score sheet, with her fifth goal in three games. Kilshanvey extended their lead again with a goal reminiscent of a certain goal in the 1966 world cup final. But just before half time Shauna Ward added her third & claimed her hatrick to bring it back to one.
The second half started much the same as the first with Kilshanvey catching our girls with another quick start, and with Shauna Ward hitting the crossbar and Lucy Roberts also finding the woodwork, Colemanstown pushed on looking for another goal. Eventually they found it with Catherine Burke finding the net. Another penalty added to Kilshanveys lead and with Colemanstown throwing everything they had at Kilshanvey, the hosts were able to capitalise on this and added another to their total to see out the game. For Colemanstown it was a game where they deserved more, short of a number of players through injury and illness, they still created chance after chance and there is plenty to build on for the season ahead. Girls U12 Div 2: Oughterard 0 – 8 Colemanstown. Colemanstown U12 girls travelled to Oughterard in their second league game of the campaign. Captained by Faye Ryan, the girls produced a goal fest. Lucy Burke Hardiman continued her goal scoring exploits adding 5 to her seasons tally, with Elise Rohan adding 2 of her own and captain Faye getting in on the act as well. The backline led by Realtin Saunders, Caoimhe Greene and Chloe Burke made Emily Touhy’s day between the posts a quiet one. The midfield of Ciara Maybin, Grace Reddington, Ella Kavanagh and Meabh Lally controlled the game excellently. A great result for the girls who had a clear plan which they executed to perfection while the goals sum up their performance. The girls now turn their attention to the next round of the Connacht Cup on bank holiday Monday with the visit of Salthill Devon to Colemanstown which might just be a tougher task. Boys U12 SFAI Cup: Corrib Celtic 1 – 0 Colemanstown. A solitary goal proved decisive as Corrib Celtic edged past Colemanstown in a tightly contested Round 2 of the U12 Boys SFAI Cup clash in Annaghdown on Saturday. The game was a spirited affair from the outset as both sides showed plenty of energy & determination. Despite Colemanstown’s best efforts to find an equaliser & bring the game to extra time, they pushed forward with renewed urgency in the closing stages but Corrib Celtic’s defence remained resolute.
