u16’s: Another great clash with rivals Mervue

Colemanstown’s under 16s took on Mervue away on Sunday and got off to a flying start when Lee Murphy picked up the ball in midfield and sprayed the ball from right to left for a perfect pass to Brian Sweeney who tucked the ball into the corner to go 1 up after five minutes. Mervue made it one a piece after twenty minutes with a good header from a corner. The midfield of Lee Murphy, Keith Connell, Ronan O Neill and Daniel Masterson worked hard throughout the game against a very strong Mervue midfield. The two lads up front, Brian Sweeney and Keith Murphy linked up well and created a hatful of chances and after thirty minutes Brian Sweeney made it 2-1. But the best was yet to come when Lee Murphy took a corner from the left and the ball was headed clear for Lee Murphy to catch the ball on the half volley on the edge of the box and rifle the ball into the top corner and make it 3-1 up at half time. The second half was a hard fought affair with tackles not been spared by both sides and with ten minutes to go Mervue made it 3-2, game back on. Following a few positional changes, Lee Murphy got on to a good pass from Keith Connell who slot the ball under the out coming keeper 4-2. With seconds left Mervue made it 4-3 and left Colemanstown with a very nervy finish.  They held out well to earn all 3 points in this massive encounter.
