‘B’ Team battle back to earn a share of the spoils

Our ‘B’ Team put in a spirited second half performance against a strong Oughterard outfit to ensure they held on for a point and have now secured 7 points out of a possible 9 in their last three outings. There was little to note in the first half apart from Oughterard’s goal on 7mins, a poorly defended corner which was eventually poked over the line in a goalmouth scramble. In truth Colemanstown created nothing in the first half, not even a half chance, as it took them awhile to get into gear. In the second half, they stepped up the tempo as chances came thick and fast. Sean Walsh created a few chances while Kevin Reilly who ignited the Colemanstown revival, had an effort which barely scraped the post. Joe Finnerty then had two chances which were cleared by a defender off the goal line; his second a splendid curling corner. Finally the goal came from a set piece as Shane Bailey rose highest to head home a Joe Finnerty corner and bring his goal tally to 6 in 2 games. Oughterard’s only second half chance was splendidly dealt with by Tom Broderick in goals with a great one handed save. Ultimately, Colemanstown had to settle for a share of the spoils despite their late efforts as they maintain their recent good run of form. Bailey and Sean Walsh combined well up front while Kevin Reilly made a notable difference on his introduction especially with his mazy runs down the wing. Kerrill Lally & Tom Loftus were resolute in defense. This result keeps them in 4th position as they prepare to host table toppers Hibs at home next weekend.
